This paper initiated the notion of a fracture toughness of lattice materials, and led to subsequent studies on the toughness of cordierite honeycombs with Johnson Matthey (done by 2-way visits with the Johnson Matthey chief scientist, Dr. Martyn Twigg, ID_in_audit_file@matthey.com). Presented as a Plenary Lecture at 8th European Solid Mechanics Conference, Graz, 9-13 July 2012, 1200 attendees.
