Additional information

This review was commissioned at the request of the Department for International Development, to identify generic and significant lessons from NGO work on disaster risk reduction at local level. Its findings are informing practice by the five international NGOs studied (ActionAid, Christian Aid, Plan International, Practical Action and Tearfund). It has led to the creation of a new web portal on Disaster Risk Reduction and Building Resilience on the eldis website (an online service, funded by the UK and Irish governments, to share the best in development, policy, practice and research, used by 80,000 development practitioners worldwide).
