Additional information

This research has now enabled corrosion resistant aluminium alloys to be considered for future armoured vehicle manufacture and other defence applications (contact Mathew Lunt, DSTL – mjlunt@dstl.gov.uk). The technique is now being applied to the development of high strength aluminium in a research programme on wire plus arc additive manufacture for large scale engineering structure. The aluminium development in this programme is principally supported Lockheed Martin (steve.t.burnage@lmco.com) and Bomardier Aerospace (gary.moore@aero.bombardier.com) and an EU project (Contract 313781, total €18.8M, CU €250k).
