Climate change, population trends and groundwater in Africa
This work formed an invited key note presentation for the “Groundwater and Climate in Africa” conference held in Uganda, June 2008, a conference supported and attended by international development organisations, including BGR, GTZ, DFID, Ministry of Water and Environment , IAH, UNESCO-IHP, DANIDA, NSF, African Development Bank and World Bank. The overall conclusion, that population growth will have a more significant impact on water resources in Africa than climate change, is informing the work of Cranfield Visiting Professor Richard Carter (richard@richard-carter.org) in developing a Department For International Development project on water resource management and adaptation to climate change.
