Additional information

Sponsored by National Grid, this research is the first time that the risks from electrical bushing failures have been quantified. For the first time techniques for modelling civilian explosions in metallic containers were applied to pressurized porcelain vessels. The results now form part of National Grid’s safety case for electrical sub-stations (Gordon Wilson gordon.wilson@uk.ngrid.com). Follow-on research has been funded by National Grid to develop safety netting for use at electrical substations to prevent injury to personnel (contact as above).
