Composition of uroliths in small domestic animals in the United Kingdom
This research results from establishment of the largest archive of domestic animal urinary stones in Europe. It led to an analysis service for urinary stones in domestic and non-domestic animals (otters, shark, and penguin) treated by UK veterinary surgeons. The methods have been adopted in a collaboration established with Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project for analysis of Anglo-Saxon urinary stone (earliest known in the UK). Results published in journal (Beckett, 2008) and a presentation at British Association for Advancement of Science, Festival of Science (Liverpool 2008) where it was awarded the Presentation of Heritage Research Prize.
