Additional information

This paper was the main outcome of the PhD studentship funded by EPSRC and IDB Technologies Ltd (Ian Burnett, ian@idbtechnologies.co.uk) and published in a leading Institute of Physics Journal. The paper presented an innovative design, prototyping and testing of a micro-engineered gripper for biological fibre manipulation and testing. The integration of force sensor with micro polymer gripper on the same chip is a major breakthrough. The micromechanical testing method developed can be exploited by a wide range of microsystems under development. This paper made an important contribution to the significant microsystems audience around the world.
