Additional information
In this paper, the concept of socio-economic resilience, is used for the first time to analyse the relationships between diversity in land use and ability to react to unexpected events in the south-east region of Bahia (Brazil). Landscape index, GDP, urban population data and a multiple regression analysis are used to investigate the ability of local communities to react to the international cocoa crisis of the 1990s. The results of the paper support government policies oriented towards promoting land use diversification as an instrument for socio-economic resilience increase.
