Double-weighted statement

This book makes new, significant, and far-reaching claims about the formative influences on and aesthetic underpinnings of Samuel Beckett’s novels up to 1949 and his aesthetic theory (by extension, this argument alters our understanding of the rest of his artistic output as well). It is based in the analysis of a considerable body of archival material (collected from three continents), as well as a close attention to extensive and difficult primary texts. The presentation of its argument was dependent upon several years of data collection, as well as a methodological practice joining close reading, theory and archival research.
