Additional information

Biology has been resilient to engineering because it was incompletely defined. This paper defines the entire (genome-wide) map of the chemistry (metabolism) of the most industrially relevant eukaryotic organism (baker’s yeast). It serves as paradigm for systems biology, for organizing a research consortium to integrate excessive amounts of molecular biology information and the same methodology has been used to produce the human metabolic map, a revolutionary basis for individualized medicine. It has received intensive attention from the food industry
