Additional information

This paper reports for the first time a scalable technique for production of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) from relatively cheaper and more readily available carbon nanotubes or graphite flakes. While avoiding using very expensive and poorly available C60 materials, the production yield could be increased (from the current <2% from other methods) to >20%. The work was highly appraised by the reviewers and was featured as an inside cover of the journal by the editor (Alan Holder: HolderA@rsc.org).
