Additional information

The paper is the outcome of a follow-on grant (BB/FOF/206) from the BBSRC protein purification study (BB/C506364/1). A new multilayer toroidal coil centrifuge (MTCC) was developed to overcome the loss of stationary phase found when using a centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC). It was found that stage efficiency rose dramatically (up to 25%) as the centrifugal force field was increased. Furthermore there was no loss of stationary phase, with the MTCC having five times the throughput of the CPC with the same resolving power. The commercial potential of this new technology will be exploited by Dynamic Extractions (www.dynamicextractions.com).
