Additional information

A theoretical model is presented of the acceleration of a point on the circumference of a slip ring on a wind turbine generator as a function of defect profile. A statistical analysis of the time-domain acceleration data as a function of defect profiles, rotation speeds and brush contact pressure is performed. The detection performance is considered in terms of a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 3. This development has led to European projects e.g. REA Grant Agreement Number 283277, which were used to fund the technique development and validation. The system and software developed are still in use by wind farm operators.
