Transverse-momentum and pseudorapidity distributions of charged hadrons in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
The measurements of particle yields and distributions of known particles produced in CMS (a large scale particle detection system operating at the Large Hadron Collider, Switzerland) reporter here were essential for separating the new interactions searched for in CMS from the background. They allowed, for example, the discovery of the Higgs particle in 2012 (Physics Letters B 716 (1): 30–61). A key component of the detection system was the silicon tracking system to whose construction and operation I have contributed. I was Co-Investigator of the STFC grant that supported this research (ST/H000925/1, £177K) which was subsequently extended (STK001639, £221K).
