This gives the first published evidence of the effectiveness of lift-over crossings at controlling groundborne noise and vibration. The paper was acknowledged in a letter from Birmingham Centro (Mr Colin Robey, Metro Operations Manager), who noted that this work has helped them in preparing their noise and vibration policy for the Centro extension, and that, on the basis of the published performance, they have made provision for this technology as part of their noise and vibration mitigation planning. Centro are now collaborating with the author through their sponsorship of an undergraduate project.
