Additional information

This paper helped Cambridge to establish new thinking in the area of pile foundations in earthquake prone zones of the world. This paper and continued work at the Schofield Centre led to the publication of the book 'Design of Pile Foundations in Liquefiable Soils', Imperial College Press. This book became popular, following recent earthquakes in Tohuku, Japan and in Christchurch, New Zealand and sold more than 800 copies to date. A series of Keynote lectures was given on 'Seismic Design of Piles' at Christchurch and Auckland following invitation from New Zealand Geotechnical Society in April 2011.
