Merged phototransistor pixel with enhanced near infra-red response and flicker noise reduction for bio-molecular imaging
The paper demonstrated the first thin film photo-transistor image sensor in the near infra-red, for low cost, low noise, and high-resolution imaging over human-size areas. This work led to two PCT patents (PCT/CA2007/002238 and PCT/CA2009/000484) and a new spin-off company (biopixel-cam.com) that is currently being incorporated. The research led to a collaborative program (funding GBP500k, Jan2013-Dec2014) with the Nanjing Economic Zone, South East University Nanjing, and Nanjing Kang Qiao Xin Gang Optoelectronics Ltd, to develop bio-imaging technology for gene- and drug-discovery applications (UCAM-9519). The research resulted in funding from CIKC-RG46495 (2009), CIKC-RG55579 (2012) and M3i UCL-CW1H (2010) totalling GBP63k.
