This paper is also related to the adapting to climate change papers in that it relates to integrated coastal management and a mechanism for evaluating success in achieving coastal sustainability. The links between successful management and how adaptive it is are strong and the mechanism outlined informed the case study analysis as well as feeding into the evaluation of the Wadden Sea Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (Gallagher et al., 2010) and the Coastal Communities to Adapting to Climate Change (CCATCH) project evaluation carried out by Gallagher and Inder (2012), the results of which were also published elsewhere.
