This paper develops novel strain-based algorithms to simulate computationally yielding and failure of bone, which permit patient-specific modelling with ease. It led to a UKIERI project (UKUTP201100164) with IIT Delhi (Prof. Mahajan; mahajan@am.iitd.ernet.in) to develop unified approaches to model failure of bone, with extension to snow. It also led to collaboration with “Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment” in India and secondments to Edinburgh by Srivastava (pk.srivastava@sase.drdo.in) and Chandel (chaman.chandel@sase.drdo.in). Discussions are underway to consider inclusion of these algorithms in the voxel-based simulation code VOX-FE (http://www2.hull.ac.uk/science/medical__biological_eng/research/vox-fe.aspx).
