Additional information

Lamb provided a 10,000 word introduction and 25,000 word commentary to this updated and significantly enhanced edition of a 1901 book, providing evidence that the puirt-à-beul genre of Gaelic song predates both the evangelical movements of the 1800s and the 1747 Acts of Proscription. This undermines the prevailing view that puirt are a modern invention.
