Additional information

<20>Visualization of massive (TB-scale) is computationally demanding, usually only solved by complex systems written in large-volumes of low-level imperative code. This paper overturns conventional wisdom

by developing and deploying purely functional technologies to successfully answer a set of open questions on stellar simulation data posed by astrophysicists as an open challenge to visualization research.

Publication of this unexpected result led directly to ongoing collaboration with Microsoft Research Cambridge on understanding functional language performance on multicore platforms.
