Additional information

<28> The concept of a fitness landscape is central to understanding how Evolution works in detail, and to an understanding of evolutionary dynamics. This paper is significant as it uses a new type of DNA microarray platform to synthesise over 1 million unique DNA molecules, giving one of the most complete pictures of a real biological fitness landscape ever made. We contribute to understanding through a detailed statistical analysis of the properties of the landscape, including enumeration of its optima, random walk analysis, comparison with artificial fitness landscapes, and by making all data available to the community.
