Additional information

<25> This paper, produced from Liu’s Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowship (IIF), supervised by Clapworthy and Dong, devised a new spherical proxy geometry that can be used in any raycasting method. It overcame problems with existing single-pass raycasting algorithms, creating tighter ray segments. This provided structures better suited to GPU implementation than previous methods, with obvious performance advantages, particularly for interactive data exploration in which parameters are changed rapidly. Performance was shown to be significantly faster (up to 15 times) than the most efficient algorithms previously published, which were based on cubical proxy geometries. Future work predicts other REF papers submitted.
