Additional information

This paper explores plasma jet configurations and examines, for the first time, their contrasting physical characteristics. The work has led to new terminology in plasma science ‘linear-field' and ‘cross-field', which have been adopted by the community. Further consequences of the work include an invited talk at the IOP Plasmas, Surfaces and Thin Films workshop (UK, 2009) and subsequent election to the IOP Ion and Plasma Surface Interactions committee.
