Additional information

The paper presents a mathematical morphology based on an in-rush identification scheme that shows significant improvement over conventional methods in terms of simplicity, accuracy and response speed. The work was supported by ALSTOM (stephen.potts@areva-td.com). Siemens and ALSTOM have subsequently provided support for an EPSRC-KTA grant, to implement the new scheme using System on Chip (SoC) technology as the first prototype of a SoC based MM protection relay.
