Additional information

The Constrained Cellular Automata is the most advanced land use model. It predicts the transition in use of parcels of land over time, e.g. from agricultural to residential, or residential to industrial. As the researcher at the consultancy developing and commercializing the model, I was acutely aware of its limitations. This paper overcomes the inability to reflect gradual transitions in land condition that precludes realistic simulation of agricultural and natural land dynamics. The extension widens the applicability well beyond urban growth dynamics, creating commercial opportunities.
