Development of a doped titania immobilised thin film multi tubular photoreactor
This research was funded through a joint EPSRC/NSF project (EP/H004130/1) with California Institute of Technology and University of St Andrews. The paper demonstrates the enhanced downstream processing potential for an immobilised film photoreactor compared to that of a suspended powder/particle catalyst reactor. The current approach to photoreactor development is firmly based on the principles of surface area, which greatly limits applicability of semi-conductor photocatalyst in industrial applications, as a large surface area require powder catalysts. A linear relationship has been seen between increasing reactor volume and degradation which would not normally be observed in a typical suspended reactor system.
