This is the first and so far the only book to document in detail the history of unusually profitable films and the history of unusually long, lavish and costly productions in the US. In addition to accounts of the films themselves, the book cites facts and figures from primary sources in archives in the US as well as from articles, books and an array of industry journals (none of which had been digitised prior to the book’s publication). It also uses these sources to provide details about the distribution as well as the production of the films themselves.
