A theoretical paper bringing the idea of post-development into the realm of sustainable development (SD). Post-developmentalists have been critical of SD as just another spin on post 2nd World War development - primarily that development is both a goal and process defined by the developed world and applied to the developing world. This paper brings that perspective to the attention of the SD community and critiques the assumptions upon which it is based. The paper has been widely cited within the SD community – both within academic journals and elsewhere.
