Additional information

This is the first paper in the literature that reports numerical modelling of suction filling, a unit operation widely employed in pharmaceutical, fine chemical, ceramics and powder metallurgy industries. The model integrates the discrete element methods with the computational fluid dynamics (DEM/CFD). The numerical results were in broad agreement with the experimental study. We revealed that process efficiency can be dramatically improved with suction filling. The numerical model can be used as an innovative tool for product development and process optimisation in particulate product manufacturing industries.
