Additional information

This paper adds important experimental data to the sparse literature on dense phase pneumatic conveying of coarse particles. It provides the first data on a conveying pipeline in this mode driven from a fluidised bed, a commonly used arrangement in industry. It is then shown that the only credible published theoretical approach, previously thought to be flawed by those who developed it, when modified for the launch from a fluidised bed gives almost perfect agreement with the theory. The paper also shows that those who published the theory were incorrect in their conclusions since their own data do fit the theory.
