Appearance-based localization for mobile robots using digital zoom and visual compass
This paper was the culmination of a project undertaken within the Centre for Hybrid Intelligent Systems at Sunderland University. It was a complex programme of work, reflected in the expertise of the authors; namely computer science, mechanical engineering, physics and mathematics, and computational neuroscience, respectively. The work itself required the application of the wide range of disciplines involved in the practical implementation of mobile robots, including novel sensor design, machine vision, mathematics, machine intelligence, and computer programming. It is an extensive paper and the experimental results are reported in detail. The Robotics and Autonomous Systems journal is highly regarded by those involved in this multidisciplinary area of research.
