Additional information

First published FE based method to rigorously pass previously proposed element patch tests (Providas & Kattis, 2002, Comput. Struct., 80, 2059-2069) for heterogeneous materials exhibiting higher order constitutive behaviour. Subsequently developed by other international researchers investigating hetetrogeneous materials notably Pindera et al, University of Virginia, USA (Pindera et al, 2009, Composites Part B-Engineering, 40, 5, p349-378, Pindera et al, 2010, Int. J. Of Plasticity, 26, 2, p273-287 ) and enhanced by others at EPFL, Switzerland (Zhao et al, Int. J. Of Comp. Meth., 7, 1, p151-166 ) as well as the author (Beveridge et al, 2013, Comput. Struct., 129, p54-62).
