Female sexual inversion: same-sex desires in Italian and British Sexology, c. 1870-1920

This monograph analyses a considerable body of primary sources from a number of Italian asylums' archives which were difficult to access. It has also utilised a vast range of historical sources and texts consulted in rare originals. The book has been described as making a significant contribution to existing knowledge, thanks to the detailed archival research on which it is based and moves clearly between two different intellectual, cultural and linguistic contexts. Its conclusions are wide ranging and it is also a comparative study which looks at Britain as well as Italy to produce innovative insights about both countries.
