Carbon Dioxide Emissions due to Highway Subgrade Improvements
This paper presents a detailed assessment of the true carbon cost of lime treatment and when lime can be beneficial (when all carbon impacts sources are fully considered) in subgrade treatment process. This paper demonstrated key methodologies to determine carbon impact for highway sub-grade treatment. Throughout, this work linked to the impact of the role of specifications in the treatment process, and how these can hinder carbon critical design issues within the context of sub-grade treatment. This work led to a jointly funded PhD (with Amey) to examine resilience (including carbon) issues associated with geotechnical assets for highway works.
