Double-weighted statement

This monograph is the result of two decades of sustained research and collection of material in Myanmar (Burma), one of the most difficult countries to access due to its isolation and successive oppressive regimes. Kawanami has used extensive primary sources, which have not been published before. The research was conducted in Myanmar language and many of the materials were drawn from Myanmar and Japanese and Chinese sources. The extensive research including linguistic effort, period of fieldwork, and level of original critical engagement with the subject matter is equivalent to what is required to produce two or more single outputs.
