Additional information

The methodology developed in this paper was one of the key underpinning modelling approaches that helped secure the flagship £4.7M EPSRC Frontier Engineering grant (EP/K03877X) awarded in 2013 for modelling the human musculoskeletal system. The study shows for the first time that it is theoretically possible to provide quantitative information on the neural field and estimates the intra-cortical connectivity structure based on data collected from grid macro electrode sensors. The ability to identify cortical connectivity is important for understanding the underlying mechanisms of seizures and therefore for the treatment of neurological disorders, such as epilepsy, in a clinical setting.
