Additional information

A method for representing data-rich strain maps from digital image correlation with reduced dimensionality is introduced and used in finite element model updating. The method has enabled the development of a standard for quantitative validation of computational models supported by EU FP7 grant (FP7-NMP-2012-319116) and a new approach to classifying damage in composites (EPSRC CASE award with Airbus). Presented in invited plenary lectures at 2012 International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Symposium on Advances of Optical Techniques in Experimental Mechanics (evidence file: patterson4-1.pdf) and at the Associazione Italiana per l’Analisi delle Sollecitazioni 2012 conference (evidence file: patterson4-2.pdf).
