Additional information

The Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is a computational technique used to evaluate medical devices, e.g. by the USA Food and Drug Association (FDA). This pioneering paper systematically explained a long-standing, but largely ignored, error in the LBM. We formulated, tested, and verified that lower order LBM is insufficient to model real flow in some situations. Our hypothesis has since been extended and verified by international reputable groups (e.g. Hassan, y-hassan@tamu.edu; Krafczyk, kraft@irmb.tu-bs.de). Critically, it serves to caution the FDA/industries when using LBM to evaluate medical devices.
