Additional information

This is the first paper of a body of work that has redefined research in multiferroic oxides and has opened up the possibility of a new family of Pb-free piezoelectric materials for sensor and actuator applications. The paper reports the first observation of a Pb-free antiferroelectric and antiferromagnetic ceramic. The work has been taken up by numerous groups worldwide, including Universities of Maryland and New South Wales and the Academy of Science, Prague. (e.g.DOI:10.1038/ncomms1778). It led directly to two EPSRC awards, EP/G069069/1 (£286k) and EP/H048049/1 (£23.8k) and is the subject of >10 invited and plenary lectures.
