Additional information

This research was initiated with Tata Steel as part of the EPSRC funded IMMPETUS programme (EP/F023464/1) to directly address the problem that industrial microstructural models do not work for complex deformation sequences (strain path). Using our unique strain path test equipment, we were the first to show that for the same applied strain, the number and type of deformation passes determines final microstructure. The observed structures have been correlated with those observed in the industrial process. This provides fundamental information that is being incorporated into microstructural models for process control at Tata Steel (Andrew.rose@tatasteel.com).
