Additional information

This paper demonstrates that dielectric resonators for mobile phone base stations based on barium cobalt niobate (BCN) require stringent control over the firing atmosphere and schedule to control their selectivity to a specific microwave frequency. A multi-technique investigation was performed to establish the influence of ceramic processing on the microwave dielectric loss. The investigation revealed for the first time a direct link between p-type electrical conduction and microwave dielectric loss due to low levels of non-stoichiometry, resulting from Co-loss at high temperature.
