Additional information

<23>Subshape recognition is the open problem in the application of shape grammars, its solution (>30 year international effort) being key to design synthesis problems. We shift the emphasis from analytics to computer vision; demonstrating the world's first computational design synthesis system working with arbitrary emergent shapes in designers' 2D sketches. Shape grammar founder George Stiny (MIT) stated “…the rigorous treatment of subshape recognition in a fresh novel way on firm mathematical foundations will certainly support a solid body of additional work… the paper is seminal… could become a classic in the shape grammar literature.” Follow-up: Leverhulme F/00269/Z funding; EU proposal.
