Effect of Engine Operating Conditions and Lubricant Rheology on the Distribution of Losses in an Internal Combustion Engine
The mechanism of friction reduction with advanced engine lubricants of low viscosity and with friction reducing additives in an actual engine is demonstrated for the first time in this paper, published in the top US tribology journal. The Lubrication Science Leader at Ford Research in the US, Dr Arup Gangapodhay (agangopa@ford.com), reported by email that it uniquely explains important anomalies seen in large scale vehicle fuel economy tests. In the top 10 most downloaded articles for this journal from October to December 2009. Led to an invited keynote paper for Priest at the 18th International Tribology Colloquium, Esslingen, Germany, 2012.
