Attenuation correction in ultrasound contrast agent imaging: elementary theory and preliminary experimental evaluation
Correction for the attenuation in overlying tissue is a challenging problem in ultrasonic imaging. In this paper, in collaboration with colleagues at Imperial College London, we have modelled the linear and nonlinear echoes received from tissue and from microbubbles and reported preliminary experimental validation of the theory. This is an important step towards more reliable tissue identification in clinical practice. The work was supported by grants from the EPSRC and by the Medical Images and Signals Interdisciplinary Research Consortium, jointly funded by the EPSRC and the MRC.
