Erosion-corrosion resistance of engineering materials in various test conditions
Significance of output:
Recent oil leaks and related safety issues in the Oil and Gas sector has led to a demand for better prediction of engineering material performance. Currently companies are unable to predict erosion and corrosion levels in offshore drilling and production pipelines. These valves, pumps and pipes handle sand suspended in energetic corrosive flows and suffer from premature failures and shutdowns that cost £Millions and instigate lengthy health and safety executive investigations. This study forms part of the multi-partner tribo-corrosion network activity looks at sand erosion-corrosion of oilfield materials to identify those that resist erosion and corrosion the best.
