The author made a substantial contribution to the conception and design of the study. The author came up with the concept of using micro-led arrays as programmable light sources for optically stimulating biological events or processes. The author was responsible for organising the design of the multiplexed drive electronics used to drive the micro-led arrays, and the optics used to deliver light from the arrays to the samples studied in the paper. He made a substantial contribution to carrying out the study, including analysis and interpretation of data and helped draft and critique the paper for important intellectual content.
