‘Politicheskaia teoria ot pervogo litsa. Ot « kluchevogo perezhivania» k otkryvaniu obshestva´ [`Political theory from the first person perspective. From « key experience » to the opening of society’]
In this special issue devoted to the subject of 'open societies', I propose a new conceptual framework for the idea of 'opening' a society. I suggest to take the concept of a 'key experience' as a conceptual device that helps explain how seemingly 'passive' forms of describing one's subjective experience in literature and the arts can perform a social function by unlocking new forms of structuring one's identity. This notion of a 'key experience' as an active and social intervention is based on a critical appropriation of ideas from German intellectual history, the history of Russian formalism, and critical theory.
