Additional information

Gil and Heather Marsden (York) shared an equal amount of work in producing this article. Both authors shared the process of shaping the research questions and aims of the article, making hypotheses, and examining existing L2 findings to test these hypotheses. Both authors contributed to writing/revising different versions of the article. However, given the different expertise of the authors, Gil drafted theoretical assumptions about the tested hypotheses and the illustrations of linguistic theories and properties, while Marsden drafted experimental findings in L2 literature. Both authors collaborated equally in drafting the other parts of the article.
