Additional information

<23>This is the first paper to evaluate the effect of image segmentation errors on the calculation of quantitative blood flow from (CE-MARC trial) MRI data. Novel algorithms/methods developed (including a new non-linear signal:concentration conversion method) are informing manual markup training and evaluation/design of automatic segmentation algorithms. Experimental rigour is demonstrated using a large clinical dataset. Results have implications for researchers in the important emerging area of quantitative cardiac MRI. The software/methods developed have been used extensively within the trial and beyond (eg. Radiology, doi:10.1148/radiol.2523081584). Our evaluation methodology was also used in other work (e.g. by KCL, see IEEE Transactions doi:10.1109/TBME.2012.2197620).
